Support it needs. None — tendrils tipped with adhesive pads stick straight to the surface. What it does need is a wall large enough for a plant that will cover ten metres or more and grows several metres a year.

Effect on what it grows over. The adhesive pads leave persistent marks on paint and render when the plant is pulled away, which is cosmetic rather than structural and very hard to remove. As with ivy, the damage that matters is in gutters and under tiles.

  • TrainingIt climbs by tendrils tipped with adhesive pads that stick directly to a surface, so it needs no support structure. The pads leave marks on paintwork and render when the plant is pulled off, which is a cosmetic problem rather than a structural one and is very difficult to remove.
