Heuchera rust
A rust confined to heuchera and its relatives, showing as pale spots on the upper leaf surface with raised orange-brown pustules directly beneath them. The pustules are the whole diagnosis: it is the only heuchera problem that puts a powder on your finger when you rub the underside of a spotted leaf.
Caused by: Puccinia heucherae
What brings it on
Humid, still conditions and crowded plantings. It spread widely through the nursery trade in the 2000s, so a newly bought plant is a common route in.

- Pick off affected leaves and remove them, thin the clump to open it up, and water at the base rather than over the foliage. A badly affected plant is worth discarding rather than nursing, because it is a source for everything around it.
